the cataclysmic and immature demonstration of pent up anger By Awo boys and some muslim brothers may have come and gone with students spending 2 weeks "Mid-semester break" at home, but the dust raised by this shameful event has not yet settled. tongues are still wagging as to the justification of the various dastard acts by both parties, especially the screening of audiovisual pornographic materials (a.k.a Mojo) in public places. while many may talk about the unprovoked attack carried out on this set of Awoites, i'll like to talk about the act of mojo watching itself.
Mojo watching is one of the manifestation of a morally bankrupt generation of undergraduates. it is essentially crude, tasteless and leaves much to be desired of these supposed fine breed of undergraduates that is going to lift Nigeria out of its present visionless state. it erodes slowly the purpose of learning and replaces it with that of skirt-chasing. nevertheless, not all those who watch mojo eventually ends up being social deviants but some people are not mature enough to handle the psychological effects.
Having said that, one should not single-handedly blame these boys as the author of their misfortune i.e. being addicted to pornography. You dont expect to constantly harass a man via girls wearing next to nothing or at beast clothes fit to be used as rags and expect him not to be stimulated and act to relieve himself in the best possible means with the least repercussion (body no be firewood). the alternative is rape and HIV from "intense" and "heavy" fornication.
Interstingly, the mojo watching or friday night worship as this mojoites call it shows how mundane and ludicrous the commercializtion of sex is. It is an open secret that aristo runs of girls on campus is now at an all time high with girls using "phone call" boys in front of the female halls of residence as their pimps. this is coupled with the fact that campus babes now goes out with guys with cars, a "tushed" apartment etc. and will do anything to get them including sleeping with these guys. the truth is that Awo mojo is a lesser evil to Moremi's aristoism!
The solution to the problem is not to tackle mojo watching as a stand-alone problem, but it should be treated with a wholistic approach to the myriad of problems affecting the nation. problems such as poverty, lack of good eduction and chief of them all, corruption. All these interplay in the weird satire of the average student life, pushing him/her to do things very alien to our culture and without precedence. the only end to this satire is lax of morality in the youths in particular and in the general populace as a whole
